'King George V' & railtour leave Chester & head for Hereford
Two steam-hauled railtours arrived in Chester on this day. The 2 locomotives were 'King George V' and 'Clan Line'. Both had originated in London and travelled to Hereford where the steam locomotive took over for the return run to Chester. What made the day out especially attractive to enthusiasts was that the locomotives swapped trains at Chester. Here GWR 6000 'King George V' is at the head of 'Return to Steam No.3' as it crosses the Shropshire Union Canal at Northgate Locks and it will shortly pass through the City Walls. A diesel will take over at Hereford for the last leg of the trip to Paddington.
