Covehithe: the ruins of St Andrew's - north side
"The church must have been one of Suffolk's finest. Town and church decayed in seventeenth century and Dowsing 'brake down 200 pictures'. Church dismantled 1672, tower preserved as a sea mark, and present little Charles II building put up inside ruins. The melancholy splendour of these ruins captured in water-colour by Cotman" (Norman Scarfe, Shell Guide). The photograph was taken on a January day of high cloud and intermittent sunny spells.
