West Coast Main Line catenary
West Coast Main Line catenary
Beside Viaduct Estate Road the West Coast Main Line runs along the top of a substantial sandstone wall on a falling gradient of 1 in 100 towards Glasgow. Unusually some of the overhead catenary masts are sited outside the railway boundary, protected by crude fences made from old bullhead rail.
The land in the foreground was formerly occupied by the railway sidings of the Viaduct Goods Yard.
West Coast Main Line

The West Coast Main line is a 399 mile long high speed railway from London Euston to Glasgow. The route has a long history dating back to the 1830s. The route today is one of the busiest in the country and serves the West Midlands, North West, North Wales and Southern Scotland.
