The church of Ss Cosmas and Damian was founded many centuries ago; it underwent a major renovation in the 1600s (probably thanks to the local landowning Lambert family). With the custom of the time the cartouches were given a scrolled effect for the education of the congregation. They were later covered with whitewash but rediscovered in 1939 by Janet Becker - who was known for her restoration work in Gloucester Cathedral.
