This ledge projects into Kimmeridge Bay from the cliffs just to the west of Gaulter Gap. It is known as Washing Ledge; a double-bed of dolomite with a central parting of oil shale.
Please can anyone pinpoint precisely the site of the C.17 glassworks that was on the shore of Kimmeridge Bay? My best recollection of the dig there in 1980 was that it was close to both Kimmeridge #1 oilwell, and the display hut of Dorset Naturalists.
