Samuel Hayward House, with Dewis House behind, Riley Square
This is a view of Samuel Hayward House from the rear, where it overlooks Roseberry Avenue, which snakes around the side and rear of the Riley Square shopping and housing precinct. Riley Square was built by Coventry Corporation between 1957 and 1965; for more information see SP3582 : Entrance to Riley Square from Henley Road, Bell Green. The pilotis or pillars visible behind the lawn and hedges straddle the eastern entrance to Riley Square. The flats of Riley Square were designed by the City Architect's Department under Arthur Ling and feature lounge windows and balconies facing south-east or south-west to catch the sun.
