Boardwalk, Danes Moss
Boardwalk, Danes Moss
As part of the process carried out by Cheshire Wildlife Trust to reinstate this peat bog, much of the woodland shown on some of the mapping has been removed, drains have been blocked to raise the water level. Lowland raised peat bog is a highly threatened habitat and is incredibly rich in bio-diversity as well as being a very significant carbon sink. Danes Moss is the largest and highest lowland raised-bog in Cheshire. Astonishingly, the Moss is under threat from proposed housing development which would irreparably damage its integrity. Some councillors and planning officers need to give their heads a wobble!
