Remains of Marconi's radio stationRelics of the first successful Marconi long wave transmitting station are situated on the west-northwest slopes of Cefn Du. Much of the complex has survived on the hillside, thanks to the rugged nature of the concrete constructed footings. The extensive site, approached from the village of Waunfawr to the west, ranges over 2 square kilometres. The transmitter house still exists at the end of the entry drive, and on the high ground to the east are substantial remains of numerous radio mast bases, access tracks and ancillary buildings. Fragments of metal and ceramic insulators still litter the landscape. The station was in use from before the First World War until 1938 and was for many years the most important long wave station in Britain, handling worldwide communications. It was complemented by a receiving station at Tywyn in Merioneth
