SP3519 : Once it stood to collect 2 - Charlbury, OxfordshireI can confirm that Tollhouse Cottage was prepared as a defended position during the Second World War, part of the nationwide anti-invasion defences of 1940 built in anticipation of an invasion by Nazi Germany. The four loopholes in the west end wall covered the bridge over the Evenlode as did the three other loopholes in the garden wall on the opposite side of the road.
