Peebles Beltane festival

Beltane Week in Peebles is a midsummer festival that dates back to 1897. In common with other Border towns and villages it includes horseback riding of the marches or town boundaries. During the week the events include an installation of the Cornet or Beltane leader for that year, a fording of the Tweed by the riders, horse races, sports events, fancy dress, crowning of the Beltane Queen and a procession with floats, pipe bands and silver bands. Throughout the week the town, shops and houses are decorated in the town colours of red and white.
