The half-timbered building ahead is Castle Gates House which dates from the late 16th century and is grade II* listed. The house was moved here from Dogpole (where it occupied the site that is now the Guildhall) in around 1702. Behind that is the former Presbyterian chapel of St Nicholas which was built in 1870. It ceased to be used for worship in the 1970s and is now a hotel.
