SE2036 : Memorial stone, Woodhall Road

taken 3 years ago, near to Calverley, Leeds, England

Memorial stone, Woodhall Road
Memorial stone, Woodhall Road
Set into a field boundary wall is this memorial stone, with an anchor symbol and the text 'In loving memory of Ellen wife of Joseph Young of Newlay who died April 26th [year missing] aged 75 years. Also the above Joseph Young who died Dec. 7th 1898 in his 86th year'.

According to the 1891 census Joseph was born in Otley and was a forge labourer at Goole Quarries, and Ellen was then aged 68, making her death year (missing from the stone) also c.1898. She came from Calverley, which presumably explains the memorial being in this area, although it may well have been relocated from its original site.
