Manchester Flower Show Jubilee Trail#9, Horse Play
The Manchester Flower Show was an annual fixture in Platt Fields Park dating back to the 1950s and ran until 2003. Following a 15-year hiatus, it was resurrected and moved to the city centre as part of the King Street Festival in 2018, and as a standalone event in 2021 as the city emerged from the coronavirus lockdown. The 2022 show coincided with the 4-day national celebrations to mark HM Queen’s Platinum Jubilee; 10 professionally designed displays were created as a “Jubilee Trail” in the retail district of Manchester city centre to mark the monarch’s 70 years on the throne.
“Horse Play”, at the eastern end of King Street Celebrates the Queen’s love of horses. This sculpture, capturing a horse and its jockey in motion, was created by artist, Sarah Haynes and made entirely of twisted willow with flower-filled drinking troughs at its base. This display is a playful celebration of horse racing and show jumping. See
