SC2584 : The Headlands at Peel

taken 3 years ago, near to Peel, Isle of Man

The Headlands at Peel
The Headlands at Peel
Significant for a number of reasons.
Firstly the red sandstone from the Peel Sandstone quarry at the headlands was used in the construction of the Creg Malin hotel and the adjoining buildings. SC2484 : The former Peveril Internment Camp, Peel - The Creg Malin Hotel
Secondly the bowls green, tennis courts were there in WWII when the area was requisitioned as the Peveril Internment camp. Even an open air swimming pool, now filled in however the site is just visible to the right of the tennis courts
Thirdly in a perverse way the internees had an easy way of life with these sports activities and walks and the view.
