The promenade forms part of National Cycle Network route 62 and also two long distance footpaths, the Lancashire Coastal Way and Wyre Way.
National Cycle Network route 62

Route 62 of the national Cycle Network stretches for more than 200 miles, from Fleetwood on the Fylde Coast to Selby in North Yorkshire.

From Fleetwood it runs south along the coastline through Blackpool, turns inland to cross the River Ribble at Preston, then returns to the coastline through Southport to the suburbs of Liverpool. It then turns east, forming part of the Trans Pennine Trail, passing to the south of Manchester then over the Pennines, south of Barnsley towards Doncaster then northwards to its finishing point at Selby.

The National Cycle Network

The National Cycle Network is a network of cycle routes. It was created by the charity Sustrans LinkExternal link (Sustainable Transport), aided by a National Lottery grant.

Many routes aim to minimise contact with motor traffic, though 70% of them are on roads. In some cases the NCN uses pedestrian routes, disused railways, minor roads, canal towpaths, or traffic-calmed routes in towns and cities.

Wyre Way

45 mile long distance walking route exploring the course of the River Wyre.
The river has two sources - the Tarnbrook Wyre and the Marshaw Wyre which meet at Abbeystead. The route explores both these tributaries. It then passes through Dolphinstone and Garstang before taking a sluggish turn through The Fylde. At Shard Bridge the Wyre Way splits - one route to Fleetwood and the other to Knott End on Sea. Both these communities sit opposite each other at the mouth of the Wyre, and it is possible to connect by using a ferry.

Lancashire Coastal Way

The Lancashire Coastal Way is a long distance footpath. As its name suggests, it generally follows the coastline of Lancashire. It stretches 95 kilometres (59 miles) from Freckleton on the Ribble estuary to Silverdale, on the western shore of Morecambe Bay, passing through the towns of Lytham, St. Anne's-on-the-Sea, Blackpool, Cleveleys, Fleetwood, Lancaster and Morecambe.
