Starley Gardens is an open space on the Coventry University campus which was formally opened in May 2021. It runs along one side of Cox Street and takes its name from the Coventry pioneer of bicycle design, James Starley.
Link The university building that previously occupied the site was also named after him. This James Starley Building was erected in 1965 and can be seen here

On the far side of the garden, on Jordan Well, stand the former Coliseum Ballroom with its dome and, to its right, the former Gaumont Palace cinema. The Gaumont opened in 1931 and incorporated the unfinished ballroom, which became the Gaumont Ballroom. The complex became an Odeon cinema in 1967 and closed in 1999.
Link The Gaumont cinema part has since become the Ellen Terry building of Coventry University.
