Abbey Pumping Station, Leicester - beam engines
Two of the four beam engines in this former sewage pumping station that is now a museum of technology. The one on the left was being restored to an operable condition and the sharp eyed might notice that the nut is missing from the yoke at the bottom of the pump rods. This was to allow work on the seized pump unit. The nut on the right is clearly visible. In the bay beyond the two flywheels is the common air vessel on the pumping main. There is a small device attached to this that is the Wipperman and Lewis charging pump.
The access to this site is now more limited and access to the upper floors is as part of pre-booked parties on steaming days. This view is from the packing platform between these two engines.
