Dead Black Grass on a Drainage Bog
This patch of land sits in between a footpath running alongside Bathgate Water and a residential area. I have referred to it as a drainage bog as there are two balancing ponds nearby and the run-off from one of them definitely goes straight into here. The tops of the grasses have probably died as they will have been under fairly heavy snow for a week or so previously, but not entirely sure. It did make for a strange site though as all the grass around the edge of the bog had only gone pale brown.
On earlier maps a pond is shown located towards the North of this bog, so it may be that this bit of land has always received a lot of natural water run-off.
