Forest Way near Groombridge
Forest Way near Groombridge
Forest Way was once the East Grinstead to Tunbridge Wells Railway. It is now a popular walking and cycle route between East Grinstead and Groombridge. The Sussex Border Path also follows this section.

The railway was opened in 1866 and closed at the beginning of 1967. Ironically Dr Beeching who lived near to this line just outside East Grinstead, was a season ticket holder and travelled regularly over this very route. It is now an attractive cycle track and footpath.

The next station behind where I am standing was Withyham and the next station ahead was Groombridge. This website tells more about the line and about Withyham station - LinkExternal link Here the Forest Way crosses a small tributary of the River Medway.
