Removal of the A14 Huntingdon flyover - Photo 20
Until the recent opening of a new bypass south of Huntingdon, now numbered the A14, this flyover, near the railway station, carried thousands of vehicles a day over Huntingdon. This section of the flyover has been totally decommissioned and will be removed and new link roads will be constructed into the town from the remaining sections of the old A14.

This flyover or viaduct was built in the 1970s to carry a section of the A14 trunk road over Huntingdon. It was demolished between 2020 and 2022 after a new A14 road was built west and south of Huntingdon. Removing a viaduct is generally a straightforward process with the area beneath being cleared and then the central supports removed, allowing the structure to collapse. This flyover, however, crossed Network Rail’s East Coast Main Line, as well as the B1514 two crucial veins running across Cambridgeshire making it a very complex demolition job.
