NY4055 : Plaque on Victoria Viaduct

taken 5 years ago, near to Carlisle, Cumbria, England

Plaque on Victoria Viaduct
Plaque on Victoria Viaduct
The granite plaque marks the completion of the road bridge over the main line railway in 1877. The last line reads "Samuel Jackson Binning Esquire MAYO5" - the last character clearly a 5. I wondered if it was a mistake for "MAYOR" but the Wikipedia list of Mayors of Carlisle doesn't mention a Binning, presumably it is a date (5th May 1877, expressed rather oddly for the time, or May 1905, but that's long after the event?)
