Culzean Castle and Country Park :: NS2310

Culzean Castle (Scots: Cullain) overlooks the Firth of Clyde, near Maybole, Carrick, on the Ayrshire coast. It was built in stages between 1777 and 1792 by architect Robert Adam. It incorporates a large drum tower with a circular saloon inside (which overlooks the sea), a grand oval staircase and a suite of well-appointed apartments.

The clifftop castle, which is now owned by the National Trust for Scotland LinkExternal link , lies within the Culzean Castle Country Park, 120 hectares of mixed woodland, and is opened to the public. It is a Category A listed building (Historic Scotland LB7696 LinkExternal link ).
