Overhead power lines on Malpas Road bridge, Newport
Viewed from Mill Street near Newport station in August 2019. Overhead electric power lines and their support structures are in place in preparation for the electrification of the South Wales Main Line to Cardiff. Wales Online states that the mainline from London Paddington is at present electrified as far west as Bristol Parkway. Hitachi bimode trains will not be operated in electric mode to Cardiff until January 2020.
