Drilling rig with associated vehicles, drilling a hydrogeological research borehole into the Sherwood Sandstone aquifer in the floodplain of the River Ouse at Bank House Farm, Barlby, near Selby, North Yorkshire.

Photographed from the top of the barrier bank constructed to alleviate any possible flooding due to subsidence from underground coal workings from the nearby Wistow Mine.

The chimney and buildings at the far right sky line are part of the B.O.C.M. Pauls refinery and animal feed factory (now partly demolished).

Photograph taken on 25th July 1996 on Fujichrome transparency film.
