taken 7 years ago, near to Thornton, Lancashire, England
The War Memorial at Four Lane Ends was unveiled on 11th November 1923. It has a square base surmounted by a tapered plinth, column and figure of a bare headed soldier standing in a mourning pose. There are inscription on the sides of the column and an additional stone carved in the shape of an open book with the WW2 names inscribed on it set into the grass at the front and left and right hand sides of the memorial.
Separate from the main cenotaph is the ICI memorial which displays the names of 59 former workers of the firm, and United Alkali Company which preceded it, who lost their lives during the First and Second World Wars. The monument was originally located at Hillhouse Business Park before being moved to Four Lane Ends in 1997. It was restored in 2015. Link
