TQ4145 : Haxted Watermill
taken 8 years ago, near to Marsh Green, Kent, England
Haxted Watermill
Haxted Watermill has been much restored in its time. It was powered by Mill Stream, running parallel to the River Eden. It was mentioned in Domesday. The left hand half of the building dates to c.1580 and the right hand half dates to 1794. The mill was last used to grind flour in 1919 but worked until 1945. It was formerly a museum with a turning waterwheel and other machinery but is now permanently closed. The Vanguard Way passes here on its way from East Croydon to Newhaven - see
