Mud flats, Goosemoor Nature Reserve
The shape of these mud flats, like a three-clawed bird's foot with the base towards the camera, seems to indicate that these muddy creeks would once have drained southwards, away from the Clyst meander that encloses them to the north, in which case they were cut off by the construction of the railway line.
Link , dated 2005, describes the reserve as "six hectares of pasture land" which the RSPB has aimed to return "to its original state as an intertidal habitat", by installing a tidal gate. It certainly now more closely resembles the latter habitat than a pasture. For the buildings across the river, see
