The small Highland town of Cromarty is a seaport at the tip of the Black Isle, twenty three miles to the north east of Inverness. It sits on the southern shore at the entrance to the Cromarty Firth. The town had a population of 719 at the 2001 census (Archive LinkExternal link Scottish Census Results OnLine).

This photograph is looking towards the beach on the eastern side of the town. The slipway for the Nigg ferry can be seen towards the right hand side of the photograph.
