The three huge “earth tubes” that pull in the air for circulation around the landmark building at Angel Square, functioning both as a sculpture and an environmentally-friendly heating and ventilation system for the entire vast structure.

One, Angel Square

One Angel Square is the twenty first century landmark building, in Manchester, which serves as the head office of the Co-operative Group. Construction of One Angel Square was originally scheduled for completion in September 2012 however opening was postponed until 2013 due to delays.

The building is the first phase of 53° NOMA an £800 million mixed-use redevelopment project focusing on revitalising an area of 22 acres to the north of Manchester city centre; an area which has not undergone the large scale redevelopment seen in other central areas of the city.

The branding 53° NOMA was chosen because 53° is the latitude co-ordinate for the area. NOMA is thought to have been chosen as an acronym for NO(rth) MA(nchester) although that has not been confirmed.
