SU1585 : Whitehouse Bridges, Corporation StreetJust visible on this historic image is the capital letter 'N'. This was the first word of a piece of graffiti that read in full 'No Nazi Army'. I can remember seeing it. From memory, the graffiti dates to the early 1950s when German tank units were in Wales for training purposes. Given that hostilities between Britain and Germany had ended less than a decade before, it is perhaps not surprising that the presence of previously enemy forces on British soil provoked such a response. I know not who wrote the graffiti but I suspect it was a local Communist famed for his extra-legal activities and who is commemorated in this building
