Eglwys Llangar (Llangar Church)
Eglwys Llangar (Llangar Church)
All Saints' Church at Llangar lies between Corwen and Cynwyd, on a public footpath which leads down to the River Dee. The church was used from about 1291 until a new church was built in its place in Cynwyd in 1874. Its original name was 'Llan Rough White' and then 'Llan Rough'. There is an old legend about the establishment of the church, which is called "the legend of the white deer". The church retains many ancient features, including extensive 15th century wall paintings, a 17th century figure of death, old beams, box pews, pulpit and a minstrels' gallery.
