St Denys' church, Sleaford

Grade I listed.

The church consists of a west tower, nave with north and south aisles clasping the tower, chancel, and north transept.
The tower dates from around 1180, and is 144 feet high. It has one of the oldest broach spires in England. It was rebuilt in 1884 after being struck by lightning.
In 2003 a new bell-ringing chamber was built.

The nave was built in the late 14th century, and a clerestory was added in 1430, and the chancel was built around the same time.
The nave has four-bay arcades.

Externally, the church is decorated with many pinnacles, grotesques, and niches for statues, many of which are absent.
The north aisle was extended during a major build in 1853 when the 14th century wall was moved outwards. At the same time a strainer arch was built at the west end of the north aisle to correct for movement in the tower.

The lower part of the screen dates from around 1350, the upper part is from the 19th century, restored by Sir Ninian Comper.
The Communion rail is said to be from Lincoln Cathedral.

At the east end of the nave there are two monuments to Robert and Edward Carr, there is also a brass to George Carr, wife and children.

There are several good stained-glass windows with work by Kempe and Morris.

There is a three manual organ originally by Forster and Andrews from 1891, rebuilt by Harrison and Harrison in 1966.
