Lyme Valley Park: wildlife basin
Here it is possible to walk down onto decking overlooking an overgrown part of the Newcastle-under-Lyme Canal. SJ8545 : Remains of the Newcastle-under-Lyme canal is the same body of water in the Park by the A34 a little further south.
Newcastle-under-Lyme canal

The 'Newcastle-under-Lyme Canal' was a 3 mile 6 furlongs (6 km) level canal from the Trent & Mersey Canal at Stoke-on-Trent to Newcastle-under-Lyme. It was completed in 1800, and finally closed and abandoned in 1935. Little visible evidence now remains of the canal and the only section still to hold water lies alongside the A34 in the Lyme Valley Park.
