Newfoundland Road appears to turn off Bishopsteignton Road where the lane called The Lea came down SX9272 : The Lea meets Bishopsteignton Road A381, Teignmouth and SX9272 : Foot of The Lea. The steep hillside has been regraded and The Lea realigned to join Newfoundland Road at a somewhat easier gradient.
The connection between Teignmouth and Newfoundland is cod. From the sixteenth century, Teignmouth fishermen sailed the North Atlantic to fish the Grand Banks.
