A Railway Preservation Society of Ireland (RPSI) one-day railtour from Whitehead to Dundalk hauled by steam locomotive no 85 “Merlin” Link. The RPSI described it as “Slieve Gullion Railtour Sunday 4th May May Day Weekend Steam Special! After 10 years out of traffic GNR(I) No.85 "Merlin" is now back in traffic. This trip will be a Great Northern day through and through with a visit to the historic railway town of Dundalk!”
Formed in 1964, the Railway Preservation Society of Ireland (RPSI) is a registered charity which preserves steam and diesel locomotives and other rolling stock built for the Irish railway system. The RPSI maintains a museum at Whitehead and operates steam-hauled excursions over the present day Irish railway network for families and enthusiasts.
