TQ2353 : In the rough
taken 11 years ago, near to Walton on The Hill, Surrey, England
An extensive area of common land, 202 hectares, register unit CL355 of the manor of Walton on the Hill, now largely adopted as a prestigious golf course. Areas of scrub and grassland remain undeveloped, while the heather roughs, carefully maintained as such, are perhaps closest in resemblance to the traditional appearance of the heath. Part of the heath was taken for the M25, and significant exchange land, formally now part of the heath, exists south of the M25, and not part of the golf course. The heath is owned by the golf club, but the sole remaining registered right of common belongs to Reigate and Banstead Borough Council. Subject to rights of access on foot and on horseback under section 193 of the Law of Property Act 1925.
