Bob Crow (1961-2014), General Secretary of the National Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers (RMT), died suddenly on March 11th 2014. His death was widely seen as the passing of the last of a style of trade union leaders, someone who had the visibility and effectiveness of trade union leaders before Margaret Thatcher embarked on her attacks on the movement. He was clearly widely mourned by the London Transport staff he represented: on March 24th, the day of his funeral, tribute posters appeared at many London Underground stations.
