TL1785 : Water tower at Conington (RAF Glatton)

taken 11 years ago, near to Conington, Cambridgeshire, England

Water tower at Conington (RAF Glatton)
Water tower at Conington (RAF Glatton)
This water tower is the only remaining significant structure at this former World War II airbase. Although the base was called RAF Glatton it was actually near the village of Conington but called Glatton (station130) to avoid confusion with another airfield at Coningsby in Lincolnshire and Conington near Cambridge.
Today there is a memorial close by in memory of The U.S. Army Eighth Air Force 1st Air Division 94th Combat Wing, see Link
See LinkExternal link (Archive LinkExternal link ) for more information about the base
The tank appears to be a Braithwaite tank or similar design, see LinkExternal link (Archive LinkExternal link )
