Cleave Lane near Cleave
Cleave Lane just west of the site of Cleave, and just above the bridge over the stream. On the left is a discarded gate: it's not clear whether the lane was once gated here.

Cleave Lane is an unsealed public road between Cleave Lane End and a minor road at Heaton. It formerly served Cleave, but only ruins now remain. The bridge over the stream at Cleave has been substantially rebuilt in concrete. The road north-west of the bridge has a robust surface, but that part south-east of the bridge has been severely eroded by rainwater in recent years without any sign of repair. On a recent visit, a council 'road closed' sign was found face down on the banks of the lane at Heaton.
