The Church of St. Mary Magdalene in Newark-on-Trent is one of the largest and finest parish churches in the country, notable for the tower and the octagonal spire which rises to 236 feet, making it the highest in Nottinghamshire. It was restored

The church of was begun around 1160 although very little remains of that church; only the four large piers at the crossing. Much of what is seen today dates to the 14th and 15th centuries; the nave is late 14th century work, and the chancel dates to 1489. The tower and striking spire are 13th century. The church was extensively restored by Sir George Gilbert Scott in 1855.

The church is a Grade I listed building (English Heritage ID: 384984 LinkExternal link British Listed Buildings).
