Newton Abbot cooling tower
Newton Abbot cooling tower
The cooling tower of the former power station just minutes before it was demolished. This tower was a prominent feature of the Newton Abbot skyline for many years. The power station was commissioned in 1924 and decommissioned in 1974. the event took place at about 7.30 one Sunday morning in 1975 (to the best of my recollection). Most of the town turned out to watch. Looking carefully you can see the cracks at the base dug out to control the direction of fall. The photograph was taken from Osborne Park. If anyone reading this can narrow down the date of the event please contact me.
