Lightship 2000 (or by its Welsh name, Goleulong 2000) is a restored old red Lightvessel with a cafe and chapel on board. The ship was launched in 1953 and from that year until 1989 it was a working Lightvessel in a number of locations around the UK.
The lightship Helwick LV14 (Lightships are known by a number rather than a name because they are often moved from one station to another) was initially stationed at Kentish Knock. After that she served at a number of other stations around the coastal waters of the United Kingdom including Cowes, Scarweather and Morecambe Bay, ending her working life at Rhossili on the Gower Peninsula where she was stationed from 1984 to 1989 to warn sailors of the Helwick Swatch, a treacherous sandbank.
It was purchased by the churches of Wales, with help from Cardiff Bay Development Corporation, in 1993 and brought to Cardiff where it was restored to create a floating Christian Centre. The ship now provides a range of services 'including a place for worship and counselling as well as hosting exhibitions and conferences.'
