Graptolite fossils in Dob's Linn
Graptolite fossils in Dob's Linn
These fossil samples were on a flat-topped boulder next to the burn in Dob’s Linn. Graptolites were small plankton eating animals that lived some 300 million years ago on the surface of ancient seas. The graptolites at this well-known site are found in Ordovician and Silurian black shales. This was photographed alongside a two pence coin for scale. For a wider view of the boulder, see NT1915 : Dob's Linn.
