I can confirm that the shots show the original (now demolished) Island Gardens Station. I was seconded to the DLR (from London Underground) for 12 months in 1995 as the Senior Manager responsible for Stations.
The DLR was built to a budget and from the moment it opened has been constantly growing. It is still the case with, not only line extensions (Woolwich and Stratford), but station extensions too. This will enable trains of 3 cars length to operate. The present maximum length is 2 cars.
The CSA (DLR staff member on the train) can and does drive the train in an emergency, or when the signal system is down for whatever reason and to maintain skill levels. Speed limit signs in these circumstances are therefore very much needed.
