The top of the churchyard cross shown in SS9904 : Churchyard Cross, Bradninch complete with a friendly wood pigeon.

Pigeons are plump, with soft plumage that feed almost entirely on plants and grain. The woodpigeon is the largest of the five species that breed in the British Isles and is the farmer's greatest enemy. It feeds on newly sown grain and clover, peas, ripe corn and other crops. Year round shooting has failed to reduce its numbers; indeed, autumn shooting, by reducing the population to a level able to survive on the limited winter food supply, may help to keep numbers up. The bird has adapted itself to living in town parks and gardens.
