Aged Miners' Homes, Houghton-le-Spring
As their name suggests, these cottages were built to provide retirement homes for people who had worked in the mining industry. The coalfields in this area have been closed for many years - the one at Houghton-le-Spring closed in 1981. The Durham Aged Mineworkers' Homes Association (DAMHA) continues as a housing association, to provide homes for retired people. More information about DAMHA is on their website
