This prominent post stands (not counting the mound at the base) about four metres tall. The blackened wood is about 30cm square in cross-section.
The mound on which the post stands is of a similar construction to those at
NS4572 : Donald's Quay Light and the Old Wharf –
Link – at Bowling, about 600 metres away; it probably dates to the same era. Perhaps the marker indicated a speed restriction for steamers on their final approach to the wharf (if I come across any documentation of its purpose, I will add it to this description). In the background, on the right, is a section of sea-wall leading towards a red light (
NS4572 : Donald's Quay Light) that is just visible beneath the Erskine Bridge.
