Castleman Trail near Burley
This part of the trail is between Pound Lane Burley and Holmsbury.
The railway opened in 1847 but was swallowed up a year later by the larger London and South Western Railway. This small rural railway line was eventually axed by Dr Beeching in 1964.

Looking down from Holmsley Ridge in the SE corner of the grid square, with Whitten Pond shining in the bright sunlight. The gravelly sandy soil here is very poor, hence the heathland plants.
