This picturesque cove opposite Ilfracombe pier is deeply set in under the promontory of Hillsborough. It was a Victorian bathing cove, and is renowned for the wreck of the ship called London that sank there in 1796.

A small brick-built office is the modern home for the Harbour Master. Previously the old Seamen's Bethel was used from around the seventeenth century: that is just a short distance along The Quay and is now the home of the yacht club.
