Donen Las forest on Cefn Du
The image was taken from Bryn Mawr spur of Moel Eilio. The forest occupies an area of abandoned slate quarries. Beyond Cefn Du is the Arfon Plain and the Menai Strait. South West Anglesey lies on the other side of the Strait.

Forest track
The forestry access track looks very odd when the forest has been cleared around it. Lower down in the valley are the extensive tips of the Cefn Du Quarry.

Cyffordd ar y domen lechi / Junction on the slate tip
Waste slate from Chwarel Fawr [Cefn Du] was dumped here off the end of each tip. The tramway on this particular tip was mapped by the OS in 1888 and 1899. It had disappeared by 1913, but the tip itself still remains.
